Is OPEN a good TeamUp alternative?
For a yoga, pilates or dance studio that fills classes from its own community, yes. Both do the core job well: a recurring timetable, online booking with waitlists, drop-ins, class packs and memberships, card payments and a client record. Where they differ is what sits around that core and how it is priced.
TeamUp sells the core by the number of active customers and the extras as add-ons: the branded app is £79 a month and the marketing suite £89 a month on top of the subscription. OPEN sells one flat plan and puts the app and the campaigns inside it. A studio with 150 active customers that wants its own app and automated follow-up is comparing £139 + £79 + £89 a month on TeamUp against £39 a month on OPEN Plus. A studio that wants gift cards or Zoom classes has a reason to stay with TeamUp, because OPEN does not do those yet.
How do OPEN and TeamUp pricing compare?
OPEN’s prices are public and flat: Free £0 · Private £14.99 · Plus £39 · Business £59 a month (15% off yearly). There is no setup fee, no sales call and no minimum term.
TeamUp’s are public too and scale with you: £99 a month for up to 100 active customers, £139 for up to 200, £179 for up to 300, £209 for up to 400, £249 for up to 500 and £299 beyond that, where an active customer is someone who booked or bought something in the previous month. There is no setup fee and no contract. The add-ons are extra: Custom Branded App £79 a month, Marketing Suite £89 a month, TeamUp Perform £79 a month.
What about the branded app?
TeamUp includes its own member app, where your clients see your studio inside the TeamUp app. A fully branded app in your own name is the Custom Branded App add-on at £79 a month.
OPEN includes the branded client app on every plan, including Free. Your clients find classes, manage bookings and pay in an app that carries your studio, not ours.
How do the automations compare?
TeamUp’s core plan has email messaging, SMS notifications and automated customer statuses, and its site says you can automate messaging and follow-ups. The advanced CRM, automated messaging and unified inbox are in the Marketing Suite add-on at £89 a month. It also integrates with Mailchimp and the other newsletter tools.
OPEN’s campaigns are sequences. One starts on its own when something happens, such as a new client signing up, a pass about to run out or a client who has stopped coming, and sends each step by email, push notification or in-app message. The moment the client books or buys, they leave the sequence, so nobody gets a “we miss you” email the day after they came back. Campaigns are included on Plus and Business.
How do payments compare?
TeamUp connects to Stripe and GoCardless, so a UK studio can take direct debit for memberships as well as cards, and it says it takes no fee on the payment gateways. Cash and in-person payments are supported too.
OPEN takes cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay through Stripe; memberships renew on the saved card. OPEN does not offer UK Direct Debit. If direct debit matters to your members, that is a point for TeamUp.
When TeamUp is the better choice
TeamUp is the established tool in UK studios, has run since 2012 and has a UK sales office. If you want gift cards, Zoom classes started from the register, GoCardless direct debit, access control, a point of sale or an integration list that already includes Zapier, ClassPass and the main newsletter tools, TeamUp has them today and OPEN does not.
If you want to be the first UK studio on a tool, with the founder setting you up and answering support himself, and you would rather pay one flat price than a subscription plus add-ons, OPEN is worth the call.
